when your words hurt
My dad used to say, "Words can't hurt, girl. Ignore what people say." After so many experiences, trying my best to let hurtful words hurled at me slide, I finally realised it isn't true. Some old fart called me "stupid" today. I was in line to change some American dollars for the New York trip. He was right in front of me and he was tryng to change his American dollars to Singapore dollars. When he found out that I wanted to change for some American dollars, he snapped at the innocent me, "You should have asked me to change with you, STUPID! so this money changer wouldn't make two profits from you and from me. STUPID! But it is too late now." And he walked off.
But not every hurtful word will cause the same type of pain. Something said by a stranger definitely won't have nearly the effect as the same thing said by someone close. How can people be extremely pleasant one minute and bitingly vicious the next? Sometimes, people get so intent on winning a verbal battle at all costs, that they don’t realize how hurtful their words can be. So if you have ever speak without sparing a thought for others, do remember, words have started wars. Hurtful words spoken in haste can stop love from growing. Our words should be a joy to hear, and a comfort to others.
