Investiture 2006 Posted by Picasa

I was fortunate to be able to attend Khai's investiture on 26th January 2006 on a school day. I was on surgical leave. He look all so smart with his shirt and tie. Tried to snap a few good pics of the whole ceremony but the lighting of the auditorium was not on my side. After the event, we went back to NIE to collect his transcript and took one last walk along the corridors. It brought back memories, especially as we walked past the Video Room, Drawing Studio and Fabric Studio, where we spent my good old days... Wow, time really flies...

Went for my surgery finally

My surgery was scheduled yesterday at TTSH at 0930hrs. After all that anxiety and apprehension, I finally went for it. I couldn't sleep at all, the night before. Had an anxiety attack in the morning, the day before the surgery. Sigh.. The time came and I went for it.

Khai and Mummy accompanied me to the hospital. Did all the necessary paperwork and I got changed into the operating gown. I was wheeled into the operating theatre at o915hrs. My hands and feet were cold but I tried to think about blue skies and white clouds the whole time. The staff nurse,Sister Chai, was nice. She brought in a heater to keep me warm throughout the surgery.

I laid there, on the surgery bed. Really felt like I was in the music video of one of the Interpol songs. There was music playing in the background. The surgeon and my specialist, Dr Ang, were there. The nurses got me ready by putting all these devices on my stark body. As I inhaled the GA, the rest was history.

I woke up in the recovery bay, without any feeling at my right neck and shoulder. I was not even sure if the surgery was already carried out. I just couldn't wait to see Khai and Mummy.

That was it. The story of my first surgery. Thank you Sweetie for going through the whole thing with me and taking care of me, the whole day after the surgery. Mummy and Khai took shift to take care of me. He was there with me till 11 at night and Mummy came home to look after me till 7am this morning. I am so blessed.. Really.. I will be meeting Dr Ang this Friday for my lab test report and to remove my stitches. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Please... no more treatments.. no more hospital visits..

mas & azman's wedding @ Tampines Posted by Picasa

One of my best friends from NIE got married to Sweetie's distant cousin, Azman. It is really a small world. Went over to Mas's reception at Tampines and met up with my friends, whom I had spent one of my craziest time in NIE, doing the silliest things in the drawing studios. I miss those days, having art tutorials with them and just making alot of noise. Heheh.. Indra came to pick us up and we proceeded to the guy's reception at Toa Payoh. The rest of guys, like Khalid and Herman were already there. After hanging out there at the reception for a while, we all went down to Siglap to chill at Thai Express. Yes. Yes. I had my favourite Thai Iced Tea. =)Everyone was feeling down because it was a Sunday, especially so for teachers like Sweetie, Yasmeen and I. The lessonplans.. The admin work.. The endless workshops and meetings. It is only Sunday and we can't wait for Friday to come again.

New Year's Fright Fest Posted by Picasa

Spent New Year's Eve with Sweetie, Yasmeen and Herman at Haji Lane, Arab Street. We were all talking about horror flicks. Strange topic to chat about as we welcome the new year. Apparently, Yasmeen has not seen the movie, 'Shutter' which seems like the ultimate horror flicks for those whom had seen it. So that was where the idea for the New Year's Fright Fest came about. A bunch of friends gathered to catch the DVD. My maid spent the whole afternoon cleaning up the place. Sweetie and I went to Punggol Plaza to rent the DVD. It was a potluck party. Herman was the first to arrive. We then went to collect the pizzas we ordered. Yasmeen arrived shortly. She baked a delicious pudding. Mike and Leigh came with a bottle of red wine. Dino and Azuko came with drinks and a tiramisu cake. Fandy, Saiful and Wendy came with bags of chips and drinks. Bert and David couldn't make it. Roger was suffering from his infamous depression. It was quite a turn out.

Most of us sat around to watch the movie and the "faint-hearteds" started toying around with my Microkorg and playing mahjong. Even though I had caught the movie with Sweetie, Bert and guys, I was still scared. And yes.. with compliments from the screams of Leigh and Yasmeen. But it was fun watching the movie again, this time round having girls screaming and the guys swearing.

There was way too much food left after the movie fest.. But I had fun. All thanks to everyone who turned up and made the cozy evening possible. Thanks peeps. We should really do this again.

2005 has come and gone..

This is the first time I celebrated New Year in a quiet way, minus the clubbing, away from the crowd. It was spent at Haji Lane, with a couple of friends. Dino was having a ball of a time with the others at Pan Pacific. Rog was supposed to meet up but had to do a raincheck cos he wasn't feeling up to it. I guess it does really mean that I am getting older and hopefully wiser. It used to be anywhere, with loads of people, drinks, loud music and all. The best part of it all is that I got to spent it with Sweetie this year. Last year, we had to communicate through our mobiles. We were so near yet so far; ironically both at Little India. He was with his friends and I was with mine.
2005 came and went. So many things happened in 2005. What a year it was. Just a recap of some of the major events....
  • I was in and out of hospitals and clinics for so many different reasons that I lost count. Almost died... Broke my right hand.. Sheesh.. I'm just glad I lived through all that and I am so ready to embrace the good things to come for 2006.
  • My greatest regret was to not follow my heart and I terminated my concept. I really should have stick with it and not gave it up. I should be enjoying the fruits of my labour now if I had not done what I did.
  • I finally graduated. Got my honours. Made it into the top 20 of my cohort. It is defintely more than I can ever ask for.
  • Started my teaching career. Couldn't get used to waking up at 5.30am every morning. School was hell for me. The politics and how people follow the book so closely that I find it so hard to breathe. These people really need to get a grip of themselves and they should stop breathing down my neck. At the end of day, all we should be doing is to educate the many children, placed in our care and not worry about who will threaten our promotion opportunities. This is so lame that it is beyond my comprehension. We are teachers and not in sales or commission-based jobs. I am only trying to give back to the society and I come in peace.
I hope 2006 will be a good one and be much kinder than 2005.

My Microkorg

The smell of my brand new Microkorg lingers when I open my bag to reveal its astounding aesthetics. Many are amazed by its functions and especially with the vocoder. Thanks to Fandy's recommendation, I never regretted buying it. The sounds that it is able to produce is aplenty, from house beats to electronic sounds. The keys are pretty small though.. It is more of a trigger machine than a keyboard. Nevertheless, it will be making its first gig appearance this Friday at POW, Dunlop Street.
