An oasis of Love

Here’s a little story of love, passion, patience and conviction. With passion comes love and with love comes conviction. Patience. Well... it is the backbone to all that were mentioned. A boy meets a girl. Totally unaware of what she is really like. He likes what he sees. He zeros in. If luck is lurking round the corner and with adequate patience, the girl takes a fancy on the boy. They go out. They like what they think they know of each other, from the long late night telephone conversations to the stealing glances. That is level One and it is so-called the ‘honeymoon’ phase. It is like ‘Heaven on Earth’.

Level Two is when they start to know each other better. No more late night telephone conversations. One becomes so comfortable in the relationship and the passionate kisses become pecks. The long hours of embraces shrink into quick hugs. Here’s where reality kicks in. They realize their partner has flaws and by the way, everyone has flaws. I guess that’s what the saying ‘Love is blind’ means. The perfect picture they paint of each other gets a little distorted. This is where we start to see squabbles. “Why are you always making me wait? You weren’t like this last time. You changed.” “Why can’t you be more understanding? I have to work late and I swear I wasn’t out with anyone else.” “You promised to call but you didn’t!” It goes on and on, if you know what I mean. The most frequent complaint men have about women: Women are always trying to change them. The most frequent complaint women have about men: Men don't listen. Couples have to accept the fact that the differences are there, they are real, and they are not going away.

Level Three. Couples only get here after the ‘Make It or Break It’ stage and after all that mumbo-jumbo. The one reason why any couple is at this stage is that they still love love and are convicted of the love that endured Level Two. You remember that tingling feeling and breathlessness that made you yearn for that person the minute he or she went home.

Some people spent their lifetime looking for the right one to realize that it is not this lifetime that love comes looking for them. Our soulmates are not promised to be found in this lifetime. However, in that search, the only way to experience true failure is if one doesn't try, give up or try to hide behind excuses and justifications. It is bittersweet and it is definitely worth it if you reach this stage. However, nothing stays forever if you don’t work it. Relationships will always be intertwined with love, elation, joy, sorrow and pain. It is an on-going process so enjoy the ride, my friends.

And to my soulmate, I am thankful that I found you.

3rd Lymphoma support group meeting and dinner gathering

Yesterday was the support group's gathering/meeting outside NCC. We all met up over dinner at this Korean restaurant in Furama Hotel. Dr Lim gave an educational talk on the 'causes of lynphoma', with interesting facts and statistics. The key statement that ended the talk was "everything in moderation and just don't mega-everything".
A very big hello to the new friends I have made. The group has definitely grown in size, as compared to our first meeting, which had only 8 of us. Listening to the triunphs and struggles the different individuals had to go through reaffirms the fact that I am not alone in my 'little distorted world of darkness and pain'. I sat there in silence, nodding with agreement. We all had our own stories to share but one thing we had in common was our "signature' surgery scar.
Right now, I'm fighting hard to recover from my flu, which has advanced to a cough that disrupts my sleep. Yesterday, Dr Gilbert Fan asked and wanted to find out who thought about their condition at least once a month. I do, everyday.

Do not pursue the past.
Do not lose yourself in the future.
The past no longer is.
The future has not yet come.
It is now that matters.
Live for today.

just some random updates

I have been rather silent for an entire week, I think. The week went past, with me on sick leave, away from work for 2 days. I am still recovering from my horrendous flu. My throat hurts like mad. My nose can't stop running. My voice cracked on Saturday. I do sound "like a retard", in the great words of Fandy. Now my voice is still not back yet. I wonder if it has got to do with the crazy weather. While away from work, I was at home, rushing my datelines. I guess no matter how sick I am, work is still lingering at the back of my head. Sigh.. Nevertheless, I went for the Muse concert, at Fort Canning Hill on Tuesday. The turnout was awesome. It was an awesome night. Will update all the pics I took soon.
As for the band update, we are given a $10,000 grant from NAC but we are still $30,000 short. $10,000 barely covers the flight tickets for all seven of us to LA and back. We will be heading for LA and Austin thereafter. Visas are still not sorted out yet. The last amount that was quoted was US$4,000 for visas alone, which is just totally insane. What a bummer. We are still working on our album on a very, very tight budget. At the same time, all of us are worried if we will even make it to Austin, Texas to play at SXSW Music Festival. We are trying all we can at this moment, trying to get sponsorship still. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Just have to stay focused and never give up.
I saw a stranded kitten, on my way to dinner on friday. It was wet from the rain and I could feel its fear. That sight broke my heart.

remission updates

I went for my specialist appointment again today. Initially, the usual apprehension. Did my chest X-ray and my full blood count test today. It is good to know that everything is fine. Thank you to those who have kept me in your prayers all these while. It is through the prayer and support of all my friends, loved ones and people whom don't even know me but yet are praying for me, that helped me through my darkest moments.
It was truly a conflicting irony that I know I am blessed to survive cancer and gain the inner strength but yet, knowing the entire journey to recovery was tough. Blessed and tortured at the same time. At the last support group meeting, Dr Gilbert Fan mentioned that with hope, comes fear. I cannot agree more on what was said. I recall when I finished my last chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, I was glad that it is all over and I can put all that dark alley of cancer behind me but at the same time, one of the first things that came to my mind is fear of recurrence.
Cancer has made me realise that I have to let go of things and that I have to learn to accept what my life is going to be. It has definitely made me love more and appreciate what is around me.
Hope or fear.. I am truly thankful I am here, sitting in front of my laptop, telling you how I feel after been through one entire dark and scary 2006. After all that, people do ask me whether my piriorities have changed. Yes, they have. Now, I just want to take each day as it comes. Put one foot in front of the other and keep going forward. It’s a gradual thing, but always go forward.

It's back to work again.
A new school year with a new class of 60 adorable children.
Hectic schedule, packed with classes and meetings.
Not much of idle time to blog as often as I like.

Explosions In The Sky

It was James' surprise birthday gathering at Sentosa Cove, which was all planned by Grace. It was my first time at the so-talked-about place, which I heard that the oceanfront residential units there are sold for millions of insane money. It is a nice serene place, where we had dinner at ONE 15, this nice marina, known for housing exclusive yachts. The docks were moving the whole time and we were all getting alittle of motion sickness, been still and yet the docks are moving. Food was excellent, especially the pumpkin soup. After dinner, we went on a yacht and headed towards Marina Bay for the fireworks. An 8 minute display of 40 types of fireworks. Quite a sight and all things magical. The breathtaking sight was a sight that awed everyone of us, on the yacht, while it lasted. Champagne went around and we ushered in 2007, in a way that will be forever imprinted in my memory. Special thanks to Grace for making all of these possible. And yes, it was my first time, seeing Leigh tipsy. Heh. And what I wish for the New Year? Let's just keep it simple this year. World Peace. Heh. I guess it will be for all things good, for one and all. Happy New Year, everyone!

Gathering at Mike's Place (30-12-06)

Mike arranged a gathering for all of us to get together for good food and great company. Sweetie and I got there late cos we had to get ready our cupcakes for the potluck gathering. David, Dino, Ess, Ant, Mike and Leigh were all watching 'Nacho Libre' when we got there. I heart Leigh's yummy salad. I tried playing on Mike's drums and I kinda like it. Something to train my psychomotor skills. It was really kinda tough initially, trying to get my feet and hands to work independently. Heh. It was all good fun. We played games and had good food, courtesy of Mike and Leigh. We had a great time. Can't wait for the next gathering. =)
