The Great Spy Experiment

The Great Spy Experiment (pic 2) Posted by Picasa

We played our semi-final set at Wala Wala Cafe last Saturday. There were a total of 12 bands. I was more nervous than usual, knowing that the final 5 bands will be announced by the end of the event. My hands were clammy before and after the set. This time round, we are up against many good bands. Bands with alot of exposure to band competitions like this and to name a few, B.A.R.B and Sync of Time. We did not get to see B.A.R.B perform though. We covered the same Killers song and played a new original, "School Disco". Most of the other bands played the exact same set as the one in the auditions. Sweetie and I held our breath while they announced the results. When we heard, "This is one of my favourite..... The Great Spy Experiment!!" Fandy, Sweetie and I screamed our heads off, like some high school kids.. Heheh.. It was like a dream. WE ARE GONNA BE PLAYING AT ZOUK!! So people.. catch us live at Zouk for the finals.. Anyway, one last thing, we are still deciding on our band photo.. so guys.. is it band pic 1 or 2? =)

Greenspace Lomography

Dino, Sweetie and I took part in the Greenspace Lomography event. We had to be at The Asylum at 10am to register for the event. Each of us armed with the different lomo_cameras, went around Chinatown, hunting for the subjects, based on the 20 clues given to us. It was very much like the amazing race. We had to get the images of all the subjects by 2pm. We were so beat-up by the end of the walk and beer, ironically, became the best beverage to quench our thirst in the heat. We retired and attended the post party event at Asylum Club in Clarke Quay. We got to see all the pictures we took and some turned out to be surprisingly good.

Power Jam 2005

Power Jam 2005 @ Wala Wala (saiful)

Last Saturday was the auditions for this year's Power Jam event, which was held at Wala Wala Cafe. There were a total of 50 bands fighting for the 12 positions in the semi-finals, over the course of 2 days and The Great Spy Experiment is one of the 50 bands. We managed to catch the auditions of a couple of bands before our set and some of them are pretty good. At the back of our heads, we just wanna get up there and have fun with the 2 songs we were playing. We covered The Killer's "All these things that I've done" and the band's original. The crowd was pretty responsive to our soundcheck song, "Sweet Dreams" and of coz The Killer's song.. The sounds from the keyboard, to my disappointment, was really soft but the soundman was really sweet about it. He couldn't stop apologising to me. All in all, we all had fun. The funny thing was that we were compared to Singapore's very own, "Electrico", just because there is a girl in a band of guys.. We stayed to catch the other bands and just hang out.. We were unsure about getting into the semi-finals but the most important thing was that we had fun. On Monday, I was in school when Sweetie messaged me, "Baby, we got in!".. I stared at my mobile for a good 1 minute. WE GOT IN??!! Wow.. We beat 38 other bands and got into the semi-finals.. Hmm.. so it's more jamming till the semi-finals then..

Party at 34, Eastwood Road

Saiful's house party aka jamming session Posted by Picasa

The party was quiet when Sweetie and I arrived. Everyone was lying on the couch and saying, "Party!!". Heheh.. We had hotdogs and Saiful's special concoction of vodka, ribena and orange juice and I think I actually dig that drink so.. very much. Thanks Saiful.. One of the best drinks I had. It was Andrew's birthday and the birthday boy arrived at the party at 12, oblivious of the surprise party the guys had planned. What was meant to be a house party turned out to be a jamming session, with so many musicians in the house. It was a memorable night. What can I say.. like Saiful said, "It's a house full of beautiful people"...

Teacher's Day dinner (Fiona) Posted by Picasa

Teacher's Day was crazy. We had the normal timetable, other than the concert. I sure feel like a superstar, with the kids screaming my name, giving me presents and flowers. It all started the very moment I stepped into school. My table was full of thanks and gifts. I realised I reached out to so many children with my art lessons. It is moments like these when I feel that I'm blessed to teach art, having the children design cards and telling me how much they enjoy my lessons. The dinner started at 7pm, with 14 tables of teachers. My heart was with Sweetie, who was patiently waiting for me at the library. Throughout the dinner, all I can think of is to run out and look for him..
